THE STORY OF BEAUTY

Fritillaria meleagris is a delicate and beautiful flower that blooms on slender stems, its bell-shaped flowers gently bowing their heads toward the ground.

The name “Fritillaria” is believed to derive from the Latin word *fritillus*, meaning “a dice box.”

It is thought to have been named for the distinctive checkered markings on its petals, which resemble the pattern of a die.

By the sixteenth century, Fritillaria had become widely known in Europe, where its unusual appearance attracted the attention of horticulturists and botanists.

In seventeenth-century Holland, a growing fascination with rare and exotic plants emerged, including the tulip. Fritillaria was also among the flowers that captured the interest of people during this flourishing period of horticulture.

Fritillaria continued to be cherished in gardens and botanical culture in the centuries that followed.

Rather than blooming dramatically toward the sky, it quietly bows its head.

Its gentle posture evokes the stillness found in nature and a beauty free from ornament.

Cherished by people over centuries, the flower reveals to us a beauty that does not depend on perfection or careful arrangement, but can be found in nature itself.

BEAUTY OF HAPPINESS

Fritillaria meleagris teaches us the beauty of being imperfect.

We sometimes believe that looking upward and moving forward are what make us beautiful.

Yet there are moments in life when we feel sad and want to bow our heads, or when we simply need to pause for a while.

Beauty does not always mean being perfect. It can also mean accepting ourselves just as we are, exactly as we are in that moment.

Fritillaria meleagris gently teaches us that beauty can live even in moments when we bow our heads, and even in the parts of ourselves that are not perfect.

QUESTION FOR YOU

Can you find beauty in yourself, even in the moments when you want to bow your head?

When you are sad or feel the need to pause, perhaps you do not always have to force yourself to look upward.

It may be precisely in those moments when you bow your head, and within your imperfections, that a one-of-a-kind beauty exists—a beauty that belongs only to you.
